Work

The Kindolstadt in Ingolstadt is going into its second round – and you can take part! Kindolstadt is a ‘city’ for children between 6 and 14 years old in the “Nordwest” district of Ingolstadt. Most children and young people in the area live in this part of town, with up to 70% of them having migrant backgrounds from more than 120 countries. This year, the motto of the children’s city is “international/language and intercultural learning”. That’s where you and your abilities come in! Your job will be to support the initial set up of the children’s city during the first week of the camp, and then for the following two weeks to help supervise certain stations within the city (from Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 16:00). You are asked to draw upon your own backgrounds and international experience when working with the children. You should enjoy working with youngsters and be a creative person. What is a ‘children’s city’, exactly? Simple: for 3 weeks, children will design their own community and everything that comes with it: bakery, hospital, fire station, tools, their own currency and even taxes. Adults are not allowed and will need a visa to enter, which the children will be happy to provide for you!

Accomodation and food

You will be sleeping on camp beds in large tents (4 – 6 people per tent) on the grounds of the Kindolstadt. There is also a large kitchen tent and a leisure tent, plus a shower and portable toilet. You will cook together in small groups. From Monday to Friday, during working hours, lunch will be provided.

Location and leisure

The fortress town of Ingolstadt lies on the river Donau and has many historical sights to offer. The old town has churches, castles and houses, there are also museums and a zoo. You can go swimming in the outdoor swimming pool near the “Fronte 79” youth centre, which is in the town centre. There you can also get to know young people from the area after 16:00 as well as make use of the table football, pool table, and internet available (www.sjr-in.de/index_fronte). Excursions to Nuremburg, Munich and the Alps are possible. In the relaxation resort at Baggersee lake there is mini golf, boats for hire, a climbing centre, an animal enclosure and archery area.

Additional comments

You should enjoy working with children, speak foreign languages, good handiwork for helping set up the city, skills/knowledge of particular stations in the city are an advantage. There is a fee of 50 EUR for participants who are not from Germany.
